William Shakespeare uses an array of metaphors to express Lady Macbeth’s twisted ambitions and emotions as she reads Macbeth’s letter. She speaks of blanketing her dark thoughts and actions from the heavens above by hiding her sinful intentions beneath the darkness.
“nor heaven peep through the blanket of dark.”
This is a particularly interesting concept, as from the christian point of view, you cannot conceal any action or thought from the heavens or higher powers. This shows that although she intends to do harm, she is aware that her cruel intentions are sins and very much so forbidden and still wishes to plead her innocence as she believes her predetermined actions are not a choice but something she willingly must do.

  1. Very nice work indeed. Succinct, confident and accurate.
