Banquo begins to feel suspicious about the death of king duncan and if Macbeth himself committed the murder. Macbeth feels threatened by this, he doesn’t want the rumour to get out as it could be very detrimental to his reputation and potentially ruin his chance at becoming king.
Macbeth then proceeds to hire two murderers to kill Banquo for him, in order to conceal his murderous secrets from the public eye.
