act 4, scene 1.

the three witches prove their prophecies to macbeth by showing before him, three apparitions that each represent a prediction of macbeth’s future and warn him what he should be afraid of.
the first apparition is a floating head that warns him he must beware of macduff.
the next is a blood covered child that appears before him stating; “None of woman born shall harm Macbeth.”
the final apparition is a child wearing a crown apon its head, holding a tree, the child tells him he is safe until Birnam Wood moves to Dunsinane hill.
Macbeth then envisions eight crown kings walking single file past him, the last king holding a mirror and Banqou’s ghost following closely behind.
when Macbeth demands the witches tell him the meaning of this vision, the witches vanish, leaving him fearfull and confused.
